About Stewart
Stewart’s career as a professional artist in his native East Yorkshire spans more than five decades. During that time his work in oils, watercolour, ceramics and sculpture has been eagerly acquired by private collectors throughout the world. His skill in romantic marine work speaks for itself, not nuts and bolts shipping but poetry in colour and light.
Other subjects in Stewart’s repertoire include river scenes, landscapes, street scenes and portraiture. His street scenes are particularly sought after, perhaps because of the characters that inhabit Stewart’s imagination – skilfully juxtaposed to give the impression of everyday life with a slight exaggeration.
Stewart is well known for his marine art and has also finally released a collection of Pastiche works influenced by the great 17th century Dutch master, and painted in Stuart's inimitable style
" When I decided at a very young age to become an artist , little did I realize, that the roller coaster which I was about to board would be such a long and varied one.
I was fortunate to have at my school, teachers who would encourage me in my early attempts, in particular Mr Stephenson who was quite sure I would work in some capacity using my skills.
I have always has an unquestionable desire for the visual arts as well as the tactile quality of clay in particular throwing and sculpting.
As I launched myself into the world of art, I quickly realized that the heady mix of creative and commerciality presented a real challenge ahead.
To anyone considering taking a similar career path, I would say go for it and don't just dream the dream live it and become the best version of yourself.

TESTIMONIAL
" Art like music, has no language barriers and requires no translation. Both may need explanation but not the work of Stewart Taylor, evoking as it does a nostalgic memory of times gone by perhaps.
In his landscapes he encapsulates Larkin in The Whitsun Weddings in that place " where sky and Lincolnshire water meet , " except it could be Essex or Suffolk or indeed wherever you want it to be.
His martime images , founded as they are from the mud and the silt of the Humber of our birthplace and also those who people them, are immediately recognisable to anyone with the imagination to accompany him there.
I am proud to count myself as one of his followers and pupils. I like to think his already fertile knowledge of music may have slightly expanded during my weekly lessons, but it could be the other way round "
