I have been drawn to painting clowns throughout my career as an artist. Throughout history people have been entertained by these often strange characters. We laugh at their antics as well as sympathise with the pathos of the inevitable underdog. We all wear a mask at times, the clown forces us to stare and question. The humor, the slapstick that often feels violent can make one feel uneasy, almost fearful of what may come next. Sadly the circus has for some years been in decline but I feel the clown in all of its guises will remain with us. "
